Fair Haven Community Health Care was a center of community activism this past Saturday, as 200 plus local volunteers gathered to begin the daunting task of knocking on every door in Fair Haven- all 5,842 of them – to help educate about neighbors and provide access to COVID19 vaccines.  Attendees were split into teams, each team with a Spanish-speaking volunteer, and given maps to show which doors they were to visit. Residents answering the door were given the option of making an appointment at Wilbur Cross High School in the coming week or two. They were also offered a ride from M7 Taxi, if needed.

The canvassers also gathered names of residents unable to leave their houses, making them eligible to receive the vaccine at home. Any neighbors not home, received a bilingual flyer with a dedicated phone number they could call for more information or to make an appointment.

Community organizers Kica Matos and David Weinreb, who are partnering with FHCHC to bring the message to the community, were delighted at the turnout for the launch weekend. The canvassing will continue in the coming weeks until every door is visited.
